The Vice President of Engineering will lead our development organization and will be chiefly responsible for successful and timely development and delivery of the Company’s breakthrough medical device technology. Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the VP of Engineering will be based in Lausanne and will manage new and lifecycle product development. The VP, Engineering is accountable for on-time market launch of high-quality products and enhancements that meet customer requirements and regulatory standards. This person will also partner with the leaders of other functions to drive cross functional teamwork and execution.
Responsibilities
o Collaborate with the CTO and other members of the Leadership Team to define the engineering strategy and vision, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall goals and objectives.
o Build mentor and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
o Oversee development teams across the continuum of new product development activities, from concept development to post-market stabilization, building robust, scalable, and high-quality platforms and solutions.
o Work closely with other company leaders and participate in cross-functional teams to define and execute a technology roadmap that aligns with market trends, regulatory requirements, and customer needs.
o Effectively manage Engineering resources, including budgets, staffing, and technology investments, to optimize productivity and achieve strategic goals across all new product and lifecycle product portfolios.
o Implement best practices for robust design, design for reliability and manufacturing (DRM), continuous integration, and testing strategies that maintain the highest standards of product reliability and safety.
o Foster strong collaboration between Engineering and other departments (Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Operations and Marketing), to ensure seamless communication, coordination, and design transfer.
o Stay abreast of industry regulations and standards, ensuring that all products meet or exceed compliance requirements.
o Define and track key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the Engineering department and development programs, making data-driven decisions to improve processes and outcomes.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills
o Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
o Proven experience (10+ years) in an Engineering leadership role in the medical device industry. Active implantable medical devices experience is highly appreciated.
o Strong technical background with a track record of both executing and leading teams to deliver on-time product launches that meet or exceed company objectives.
o Strong command of effective stage-gate processes with demonstrated track record of execution.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with senior executives.
o In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards in the medical device industry.
o Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and inspire Engineering teams.
o A data-driven decision maker who ensures teams rapidly converge to solutions.
o Strong project management and budgeting skills.
o Goal, result-oriented mindset with a commitment to excellence and delivery.
Supervision
Oversee and manage Engineering and product development in alignment with business needs. Manage multiple layers, including other people managers. Reports to the CTO.
